Isa Yunis oglu Gambar (February 24, 1957, Baku) is an Azerbaijani social and political figure; historian; Chairman of the National Center for Strategic Thinking; Founder of the Yeni Musavat newspaper (November 7, 1987–November 8, 2009; one of the founding members of the People’s Front of Azerbaijan and member of the Board of Directors (1989–1992); deputy of the XII convocation of the Supreme Soviet of the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic; member of the National Council of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Azerbaijan (1991); 3rd Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Azerbaijan (May 18, 1992–June 13, 1993); Acting President of the Republic of Azerbaijan (May 17, 1992–June 16, 1992); 5th Chairman of the Musavat Party (November 1992–September 28, 2014); Bizim Azerbaijan co-founder of the bloc (2003–2005); co-founder of the Azadlig bloc (2005–2006); co-founder of the PFLP-Musavat electoral bloc (2010); one of the founding members of the National Council of Democratic Forces (2013–2014).

Isa Yunis oglu Gambarov was born on February 24, 1957 in Baku.

Education

Isa Gambar entered secondary school No. 62 in Baku in 1964 and graduated in 1974.

In 1974, he entered the Faculty of History of Azerbaijan State University named after Sergey Kirov (now Baku State University) and graduated in 1979.

While working at the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Isa Gambar studied the political processes in Iran, Turkey and the Middle East and wrote a dissertation on the topic “Iranian revolution of 1978-1979”.

Labor activity
In 1979–1982, he worked as a junior researcher and researcher at the Nakhchivan Science Center of ANAS, and in 1982–1990 at the Institute of Oriental Studies of ANAS.

Socio-political activity
He has been active in politics since 1988.

He was one of the founders of the Azerbaijan People’s Front, established on July 16, 1989, a member of the first Board of Directors, in 1990-1991 he was the head of the organization department of the APC, and then the deputy chairman.

In 1992, the restoration center of the Musavat Party was established and headed by Isa Gambar. In November 1992, the III Restoration Congress of the Musavat Party was held and Isa Gambar was elected as the head of the party.

He was one of the founders of the Bizim Azerbaijan Bloc, which was created on the eve of the presidential elections of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2003.

On the eve of the 2005 elections to the Milli Mejlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, he was one of the founding members of the Freedom Block, which was established in March 2005. Isa Gambar left the Azadlig Bloc on February 9, 2006 by the decision of the Musavat Party, of which he is the chairman.

He was one of the founders of the AKP-Musavat Bloc, which was established on September 8, 2010, on the eve of the 2010 elections to the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

He was one of the founding members of the National Council of Democratic Forces created on the eve of the 2013 presidential elections of the Republic of Azerbaijan. On January 7, 2014, he was removed from the membership of the National Council of Democratic Forces by the decision of the Council of the Musavat Party, of which he was the chairman.
Diplomatic activity
On May 18, 1992, Isa Gambar was elected the chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Since the decision of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated May 14, 1992 on the invalidation of the decision of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated March 6, 1992 regarding the resignation of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ayaz Mutallibov on May 19, 1992, Isa Until the election of Gambar Abulfaz Elchibey as the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on June 17, 1992, he was the executor of the powers of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan as the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

After the Ganja uprising of June 4, 1993, on June 13, 1993, discussions about the uprising began in the Milli Majlis, and during the discussions, the speaker of the parliament, Isa Gambar, resigned from the position of the chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Azerbaijan. On the same day, the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Azerbaijan, taking into account the resignation application of Isa Gambar, made a decision to release him from the post of Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Isa Gambar represented the Azerbaijan People’s Front in the 12th convocation elections to the Supreme Soviet of the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic and took part in this election under the surname of Gambarov. In the election held in 1991, he was a candidate for deputy from Babek electoral district number 79, Khatai district, Baku city and was elected as a deputy.

On December 6, 1991, Isa Gambar was elected the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the National Council of the Supreme Soviet of Azerbaijan. On March 5, 1992, Isa Gambar was elected a member of the editorial commission of the extraordinary session of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

On May 18, 1992, Isa Gambar was elected the chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
